Save the Date: Greenbuild 2011 is in October

We know you're all gearing up for Greenbuild 2010, Nov. 17-19 in Chicago, but here's a quick heads-up for next year: Greenbuild 2011, in Toronto, will be held about a month earlier than normal – Oct. 5-7, 2011. Be sure to mark your calendar now!

Also, as a reminder to our American attendees, you'll need a passport to get to Toronto. You might as well get started on that now so you'll be well-prepared for the first-ever Greenbuild outside the United States!

If you tour any buildings in the area, the Air Miles (aka Bentall Financial Flex Building) is a great example of an outstanding LEED project:

Another must tour in Toronto--the Gold certified (using Ca version of LEED-CI) Allsteel/Gunlocke Resource Center. It's an adaptive reuse of an old carpet factory's boiler house and it is a jaw-droppingly stunning interior space that includes a glass conference room that hangs from the high ceiling.

Why Canada? That's kind of BS if you ask me...I guess its Mexico next year and becomes the NAGBC (North American Green Building Council)

CANADA? U.S. Greenbuild?  Is it going to highlight U.S. projects and products or just Canadian? Won't it be more expensive for U.S. exhibitors to hall stuff to Canada? Very disappointing, how does this stimulate the U.S. green effort?
  • Anastasia 11/21/2010 12:00:00 AM

Greenbuild 2011 in Toronto will be great!!!  Really, it does not matter what city GreenBuild is in as: they will have all the great sessions, great green people, products and exhibitors will all be there!!!
-you just fly to a different airport, that is all :) - remember your passport!

Many vendors/exhibitors have a north american audience so this is a great opportunity for them.

See you at GreenBuild 2011 in T.O

I'm very excited about Greenbuild Toronto. For the first time, Greenbuild will truly be an International Conference and Expo!
  • Bernadette 11/23/2010 12:00:00 AM

What is the process and who is the contact person or committee for getting on the agenda for education sessions as a speaker/presenter?

    Thanks!
  • USGBC 11/24/2010 12:00:00 AM

    Hi Bernadette,

You can find information about USGBC's Call for Proposals right here on the Greenbuild website. We're currently accepting proposals for Greenbuild, Federal Summit and more. For more information and to submit, go here: http://www.greenbuildexpo.org/education/Call-for-Proposals.aspx

    Thanks!
  • Eric 11/29/2010 12:00:00 AM

What is the most central hotel closest to the convention center in Toronto for Greenbuild in 2011?  Please let me know.
  • Peter 11/29/2010 12:00:00 AM

Bernadette above asked for the Call-for-Proposals website, & a link was provided. Thanks! However, once you go to that link, it refers to a Proposal Submission Guide, which I could not find, so I am missing some link or hot button or something.  I have submitted proposals online before, typically there are themes, recommendations, tips, i.e. suggestions of the submission process which are slightly different for each conference.  What are the "tips" of submission for Toronto?  Thanks a bunch if another easy link is available!
  • Location 12/6/2010 12:00:00 AM

Maybe missed this, but what is the location? (IE name of the hall where it will be held)
  • dave genest 12/14/2010 12:00:00 AM

I represent a New England wood flooring OEM that's interested in possibly having a booth at your 2011 Greenbuild in Toronto. What is the booth size and cost?
    thanks

I see there is a call for presentation proposals out, will there be a call for papers as well?
  • LFS 12/21/2010 12:00:00 AM

GreenBuild 2011 will be hosted at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in downtown Toronto.

As the operator of Torontos's only "Green" building supply we are very pleased to be the host city of GB 2011. This will not only create awareness of so many altrenative less toxic products but allow supply sources such as ourselves to see and review these materials first hand rather than just online assessments.

If anyone is in need of a custom rental or custom build for the show, send me an email.  Astound has over 10 years of industry experience and a 45,000 sq.ft. production facility in Toronto and Las Vegas to support their clients exhibiting at Greenbuild.  We also designed and built the Nordik booth at Greenbuild 2010 (20'x 60').

    Check out our website www.astoundgroup.com

Looking forward to another great show!

To the person who is asking "Why Toronto?"  Probably because Canada is part of America (not the United States, but America - the continent, right!" ) Secondly, Toronto is a leader in green building so why not share that with the rest of the world?  Some Americans could definitely benefit from the cultural experience of leaving the US and discovering some great places.  Most Americans have never been to Canada and we share one of the longest borders in the world.  Thirdly, our economy has not seen the recessionary disasters of the US and as a result we are in  a better position to offer world class accommodations and services. Lastly, because us Canadians are tired of going to the US for this show (and other shows!) and welcome a little change.

To all planning to attend Green Build Expo 2011

I strongly believe that GB Expo in Toronto (Oct 4-7th) will be an outstanding experience for all attendees and exhibitors.    This one will exceed your expectations!

    Location! Location! Location!

Here are the some prime reasons:

Toronto has been on a Construction Boom for a number of years and more on the books with 2015 PanAm Games in the horizon.     If you visit Toronto, you will see more cranes in the city for Hi-Rise Residential (Condos) projects as well as Commercial Projects than any other North American City.     Construction industry is very healthy!

Underway is the new Four Season's Hotel/Condo Project (55 Stories) with Penthouse recently sold at $28M.  New Trump Tower (http://www.trumptoronto.ca/html/the_building.html),   New RitzCarlton Hotel/Condo Tower - just opened.   New Four Season Centre for the Performing Arts New additions to Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) by Frank Gehry, Additons to Royal Ontario Museum by Daniel Libeskind.      New construction of the Ripley's Aquarium to commence this Fall (at foor of CN Tower).    Renovations to the many historical buildings (must visit the Distillery District!).   The volume of construction projects recently compeleted, underway or commencing are too numberous to list.

A number of leading (LEED) construction projects buildings  are in Toronto have recently been constructed or being constructed.   Some of the world known architects are in Toronto.

There is an aboundance of cultural (great restaurants!, great theatre! night life) and cosmopolitan dynamics in Toronto, second to none! all in walking distance or short taxi ride from the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

Visitors should also plan to visit the wonders of Niagara Falls, (1.5hrs from Toronto City Center or 20 Minutes from Buffalo NY) where one of the first (early) "green projects" was constructed - the Niagara Hydro Plant (built in 1920's) and currently in operation and expanding with a NEW Niagara Tunnel - it's Massive!  Green Energy!  go to :(http://www.opg.com/power/hydro/new_projects/ntp/index.asp).

Alternatively, Americans and visitors can also select  to fly to Buffalo NY,  just 20 Minutes from Niagara Falls ...Oh by the way leave time to stop in one of the many Wineries on route to Toronto along Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) Highway - you must try the ICE WINE!.     If the weather is right, you will also discover the natural beauty & spectacle of the autumn (fall) colors! (at no cost to you!)

Of course you will stay to in town and celebrate Canada's Thanksgiving Weekend right after the Expo Show closes (Thanksgiving Day - Monday Oct 10th).    Catch  a Play or Performance.

Lastly...don't forget your camera!   You want to capture every moment and share with others  ...your trip will be worth every penny!   I guarantee you will be back!

    See you at the show!
